Christmas Day 2009

Last night just before 8 Viny and I took a flashlight and walked over to Marcias, who also had a flashlight, and we walked up the road a ways to the house of Celma and Justa, two Argentinians ladies, to have supper.  About a year ago an Argentinian couple and their two boys had to leave their house in Tepoztlan to return to Mexico City, and they could not take their two dogs and three puppies, and those are the ones I kept in the spa for almost a week, until Celm and Justa decided to keep them, or at least the parents and one puppy.  The original owners decided to take one puppy with them.  Last night the couple and their two boys and their dog, Torito, were all there.  Torito was glad to see his parents and sibling.  The other puppy was given elsewhere.  There were cooking a LOT of beef outside, and some chicken.  The family lives in La Condesa, in Mexico City, and they bought the beef at some Argentinian style butcher.  They also brought pannetone, a bread from Milan, but as they say, there is a lot of Italian influence in Argentinia, so it is popular there also.  They also bought the pannetone from La Condesa. It was a wonderful supper.  When the young family first took the puppy to their house, the wife said the puppy had to stay outside, which it did for the first week.  Now Torito stays inside, on all the furniture, but sleeps in his own bed.  Even Celma and Justa allowed him in their house and on their couch, although their dogs stay outside.  They gave me and Viny a CD of Argentinian tangos, and Marcia a book.  We got home about 1130.
This morning Inés came and made the tinga de pollo for the spa for this weekend.  This evening at 10 she leaves by bus with the group of 15 for Chiapas, and her son is going after all, I am glad for that.  She will be back here next Saturday, she says.
This morning I have been making guacamole with mango, mushroom soup, chicken rolls filled with dried cranberries and pecans, and wrapped in hojas santas, which I will put on a bed of pureed potatoes to serve.  I also made a beautiful little coeur a la creme, with blackberries on top.  I will try to put some photos of some of this on here later.
One of our customers, James, showed up this morning to spend the night in the upstairs apartment, with his three little dogs.  He will also have lunch with us.
After lunch Viny and I will go into town to get out fruits and veggies for this weekend.
I talked with Saundra and Bob this morning, they have about 8 inches of snow in Owasso.  I talked with Ben, who is in Rogers, Arkansas, they have some snow.  And I just talked with Sherrie, in Rio Rancho, they do not have snow.  I talked with Alberto also, he was able to get his car this morning and they plan to go to his aunts house tonight for the Christmas dinner they were supposed to have last night.  Apparently Maricela and her family and Luis and his family are all coming in the same vehicle to Cuernavaca, leaving tomorrow morning arriving Sunday.

Alberto sent his photo of a cute little snowman that his nephews Israel and Abraham made this morning in front of their house in Oklahoma City.

This is the coeur a la creme we had for lunch today.  It was quite good.  Everything was quite good.  James, Marcia, Viny and  I had a very nice lunch, with the mushroom soup, guacamole with mango, the chicken rolls filled with cranberries and pecans, on a bed of mashed potatoes, and then the dessert.  We had iced tea and sparkling wine, and bread from El Brujo with butter mixed with blackberries.
Raulyn is now here, downstairs eating leftovers.  He is off work until the 11th of January.  Alberto is going to his aunts house in a few minutes for a late Christmas dinner.
Viny and I went into town late this afternoon to get our fruit and veggies for the spa for the weekend.

I was facing into the setting sun, I guess this is why this photo is so dark, but our wonderful little town was just bustling this afternoon, a lot of people, including a lot of foreigners, always good for the economy.

Martin will not be back until Sunday, so this morning I helped Mario finish our tenth and final column for the spa cistern.
Also this morning I made a coeur a la creme for our lunch tomorrow afternoon. We are in town now and we bought chicken also for tomorrow.
I am at Los Buenos Tiempos.
Tonight we are going with Marcia to eat with Celma and Justa, two Argentinian neighbors. I know their dogs.
Both Lloyd and Alberto say the weather in OKC is terrible today. It is nice and sunny here.

Christmas Eve eve 2009

This morning Viny and little Canelo climbed the mountain.
Inés told me a local lady is taking her and a dozen other people to San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, this Friday night, and so she wants to work Friday and not Saturday, which of course is fine.  She will come back next Thursday, she thinks.  I hope her son Israel gets to go also.
Marcia came over just before noon with 18 year old Miguel, who looked at our downstairs apartment refrigerator and discovered the problem is that the control has been taken.  I suppose when we asked Julio to try to fix it, he took the faulty control and either never found a replacement or forgot about it.  Miguel will try to find a new control to fix it.
Viny and I then went into town, it was quite busy, a lot of people.  We walked around, bought a few things, including a roasted chicken for Tonio, as he will stay at Marcia's house until we return sevenish this evening.  We saw Briget and her daughter shopping.  We went to La Sombra and I read the papers and played with my iPod.
We then went home and almost immediately left again with Marcia to go to the home of Doug and Janet Dawson to see Allison Wearing perform Into the Light, her one woman show about the birth of her baby, ten years ago, and moving from Canada to here.  I loved the performance, it was very good.  As soon as it was over, I stood up and looked around and Briget was there and she told me she had just talked to Sherrie who was giving me another gift certificate at La Sombra.
Stuart Cox helped Allison.  The Dawsons house was beautiful, the food was fantastic.  Ann was there, who was mentioned prominently in the performance.  We talked with the family who own La Buena Vibra, by chance we had seen them this afternoon in Los Buenos Tiempos.  Pauls mother Celia was visiting, we met his wife and daughter and son.
When I got home I had an ecard from Sherrie also telling me about the gift certificate.  I called Sherrie, they are doing all right, getting ready for a lot of people for Christmas and immediately after.
Viny made me some hot chocolate, he is going back over to Albertos apartment to watch TV for a while.
Alberto is in Oklahoma City, he will start work soon where he used to work, Midwest City Regional Hospital, as well as with a local agency so he can work extra when he wants to.  So all is well with the world. At least with my little part of it.

This morning I took Marcia into town so she could withdraw some money to loan me.  I waited in line to pay our property taxes for the year while she went to the bank, by the time it was my turn she had returned, so our property taxes are paid for another year, 100 pesos less than we paid last January.
Marcia then wanted to take me to breakfast, so we went to El Brujo and had molletes and orange juice, and I played with my iPod.
After we went home, Viny and I drove to Cuautla to go to WalMart and Sams.  It they are any indication, the economy here must be in pretty good shape.  The huge parking lot was full, there were long lines at the many many cashiers in both WalMart and Sams, in fact, in Sams, I only had one item and I put it down and left instead of standing in the long lines to pay.  We then had a Caesar salad and came home.
The weather here is beautiful, still a little cool.  On Sunday, when it rained a little here, it hailed in Mexico City and was very windy.  This morning Marcia and I talked briefly with Sara, who was in Mexico City over the weekend, and she told us this.  Maybe the weather will be a lot better this weekend and we will have a lot of customers.
I just talked with Alberto, he apparently starts to work tomorrow night in Frisco, near Dallas for a twelve hour night shift, which will actually be fourteen hours the first night, with the two hours for orientation added on.
Viny is over at Albertos apartment to watch TV and is playing with Veneno and Paco.
Now I have to pay my IMSS this month, I will do that at least by Monday morning, if not before.  Viny's parents and sister arrive Tuesday morning in Mexico City, he will go to meet them, I will probably not go, as he can do fine without me this time.

A cool cloudy Sunday

Thanks to Clinton McDowell for the following video.  It is quite nice.

Viny thought last night was the coolest night we have had to date here, and I have to agree. The sun has been out once in a while but it is mostly cloudy, and it is cool.
We got our spa gas tank filled this morning and hopefully we can get the tank at the house filled this week, but it is not yet empty.
I am at home, Viny went into town with Chuy. We had eleven customers today. It started thundering and lightening and is now rainng, this is very unusual weather for this time of the year, and the coolness is unusual for any time of the year. I do like the rain, we need that.
Little Frida is in my lap, the thunder scares Golda. Still no TV.

A cloudy Saturday

After climbing the mountain this morning, Viny got the hot tub ready and heating and we got ready for customers.  The first two showed up at 11, no one else showed up until 125, I was getting really worried, but then people started coming, and that was a relief.  I wish the sun would come out, it would warm things up a little and brighten everything up.

These are the bouganvilla I picked in Albertos little garden here at the spa to put on the counter in the reception room, they look nice.
I am trying to decide what to cook for next Friday, I think I about have it planned out.
I gave Inés her Christmas bonus today, I will try to pay Mario the rest I owe him for this week tomorrow, and hopefully his bonus, or at least part of it.
We are getting low on gas here at the spa, we will need more at least next week, if not before, and for the house also.  I hope they deliver gas this week, but I suppose they do.
Veneno and Tehuatzin are here in the spa, Golda is in her cage, Blacky and Canela are outside, the rest of the dogs at the house, and the cats.
Javier showed up this morning, he told Viny he is going back to visit Alberto in 4 or 5 weeks.
It is now just before seven and we have 18 customers are two more are arriving in the parking area, if they come in that will make 20, which is good.  It is rather cool, I think.
Viny called the gas truck and they will bring gas tomorrow morning, as I dont think we have enough to get through the day tomorrow.
Javier showed us a lot of photos he took in Dallas and OKC.  So I got to see Chuy and Marcela and their three cute boys, and Miguel and where he lives now.  They also took photos of where we used to live and work and where we went to school and downtown OKC.
